“I am a very cruisy, easy-going person, I don’t worry a lot. Every day is exciting to me. I can’t wait to have breakfast and I can’t wait for after tea when I get to read a book. And I can’t wait to see the kids when they come back from school—every hour is exciting.

I grew up at Stokes Bay, moved away after year 12, went to Uni a few times, worked a bit, met David and then we knew this was the place we wanted to raise our kids. The island is part of me, its runs in my blood. David loved it from the first time he saw it. Going on adventures with my kids and my husband, that is joy to me. Life doesn’t get any better than that. I grew up with Dad and Mum taking us into the outdoors, I just wish that everyone could experience that.

My Dad has taken myself and my brothers on hikes out into nature since we were born. I think on my first hike with Dad I was 4, I had to carry stuff on my back and hiked down to Rocky River, camped the night there in Flinders Chase National Park and then hiked back. From then on, it just went on to 5-night trips, then trips to New Zealand. He brought us up loving nature and the wild. My son Xavier was only three when Dad took him on his first adventure, kayaking. Jed did the wilderness hike at age 7 with Dad with a backpack on. There are hardly any places left that are truly wild. I think wild places are a gift not just for everything that lives there but for humans to go and see these places and leave them wild. I hope that in my days on earth I can help in some way to pass on that message to protect it for everyone in the future who is not even here yet. For my children’s children and everyone else’s. I am passionate about protecting wild places and I love writing; I would love to write for the rest of my life. Write and spend my time in nature and then write about our adventures.

I feel like I have been given the love for writing to help spread that message that I feel passionate about. There is no better playground to me, man-made stuff can be amazing, but compared to what Mother Nature brings it’s nothing in comparison. I know how amazing wild places are, I would love to share that with everyone.”

I am a German living in South Australia. We lost our home and farm in the Kangaroo island summer bushfires. I love travelling, reading, beach walks, board games, watching movies and spending time with my family.
